"Nate Butler's tribute to The Doors takes an encore"

By Mike Osegueda, The Fresno Bee; Friday, August 29, 2003

Nate Butler didn't mean to deceive anyone. Really, he didn't.

Last May, Butler put together a Doors tribute show billed as a "one-night-only" event.
And here it is, August, and Nate Butler Presents The Doors is back again Saturday at the Starline.

"I'll level with you," says Butler, a member of Fresno's Fab Four, The Beetles, and the man who once orchestrated a Pink Floyd tribute.

"We said, 'Let's do this and if people like it, we'll do it a couple times a year.' I've played in so many cover bands I didn't want people to think I was starting another cover band that was going to be working all the time."

The May show was a hit. So Butler put the band back together and decided to simulate the Doors again.
The act features Jeff Fetters on guitar, Darren Fletcher on organ and piano, Mark Michel on bass and June Beard on drums.

Of course, Butler plays the role of Jim Morrison. He compares it to an actor playing a part because he didn't just study the music, but Morrison's mannerisms, down to the way he stood.

"Everything that comes out of my mouth is something that he actually said," Butler says.

Except that one-night-only thing. But that's forgivable.

Saturday's show starts at 9:30 p.m. Tickets cost $10.
